Suncorp Bank to stop accepting loan applications next week

Suncorp Bank has announced that it will stop accepting new applications from next week, as preparations continue for its transition to the Australia New Zealand Banking Group.

In broker correspondence seen by Broker Daily, the bank confirmed the move would apply to new lending applications, as well as certain requests from existing customers that require a new application or credit contract.

The move follows Suncorp Bank’s announcement in September that it would transition to Australia New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ), with brokers being urged to submit any pending applications before the 7 October deadline.

What brokers need to know

Suncorp Bank said it would no longer accept applications for lending from the effective date, including new lending requirements and certain variations to existing loans.

In the correspondence, the bank said: “From the effective date, we’ll cease accepting applications for Suncorp Bank lending.

“This includes any new lending needs, and services for existing Suncorp Bank customers that will require a new application, or that will generate a variation letter which creates a new account, or that will generate a new letter of offer or credit contract.

“We’re committed to ensuring brokers and customers are supported and continue to have access to the ANZ products and services they need through the move, where suitable.”

Applications that have been prepared but not yet submitted should be lodged with Suncorp Bank before 7 October.

From that date, brokers will need to assess customers’ needs and recommend a suitable solution, with new applications able to be submitted to ANZ where appropriate.

Brokers accredited with ANZ will need to complete a new lending application through the bank.

Cut-off dates for applications already submitted

Suncorp Bank said applications received before 7 October would continue to be assessed under its standard assessment and credit criteria.

However, the bank has set two key deadlines for applications already in the pipeline.

The last date for final approval and loan documentation to be issued will be Tuesday, 27 October 2026.

The final date for settlement or fulfilment of a loan or service requiring a new account or letter of offer will be Saturday, 26 December 2026.

For business banking loans, credit approval must be obtained before 27 October to allow documentation to be issued.

Brokers will continue to receive system-generated notifications and be able to provide missing information through ApplyOnline for home lending applications already in progress.

For small business and commercial lending, brokers will continue to receive updates by phone and email from Suncorp Bank’s relevant teams.

Most services for existing Suncorp Bank customers will remain available after 7 October. However, credit-critical variations requiring a new credit assessment may need to be submitted through ANZ or another lender.

Brokers urged to check accreditation, commission continues as usual

Suncorp’s transition will also have implications for broker accreditation, with those seeking to submit new lending applications or credit-critical variations through ANZ systems required to be accredited appropriately.

Suncorp Bank said: “Following the removal of Suncorp Bank lending products, brokers supporting customers with new lending requirements or credit critical variations will need the appropriate ANZ accreditation if submitted through ANZ systems.

“Brokers who are accredited with both Suncorp Bank and ANZ will be best placed to support customers through the move. If you’re not accredited with ANZ, please consider contacting your aggregator to start the accreditation request process.”

On commission, the bank said: “We understand the importance of continuity of commissions for brokers with existing Suncorp Bank customers. Trail commission will continue to be payable after the move for eligible loans.

“More information on commission payments throughout the move can be found on the Suncorp Bank Broker Portal.”

Support available during the transition

Suncorp Bank said it would continue to provide guidance to brokers as implementation progresses, with further information available through its broker portal and ANZ’s broker portal.

In the correspondence, the bank added: “Further guidance will be made available to accredited brokers through the Suncorp Bank and ANZ Broker Portals. We'll continue to provide support and information as implementation activities progress.”
