TrailBlazer lifts loan book-backed lending limit

Loan book valuer and lender TrailBlazer Finance has boosted the maximum funding available through its loan book-backed lending product for brokers.

Following a successful trial, the lender has increased the maximum available through its Trail Xpress facility from $150,000 to $200,000. The product is available without property security or an upfront valuation fee.

TrailBlazer said the change to the facility, which allows brokers to borrow against the recurring income and underlying value of their trail book, was motivated by the trickier conditions brokers are dealing with, such as softer lending activity, longer client decision-making periods and rising operating costs.

Eligible brokers operating through Australian Finance Group, Connective, Loan Market or PLAN can access the facility provided they have held an ABN and goods and services tax (GST) registration for at least 24 months and generate at least $4,000 in monthly trail income, net of GST.

Lending designed for brokers

TrailBlazer said it developed Trail Xpress exclusively for established brokers and secured the product against the recurring income and underlying value of their trail books.

The lender said that while recent market conditions had created short-term challenges for some broker businesses, the industry’s long-term outlook remained strong.

It pointed to Mortgage and Finance Association Australia data showing brokers settled a record 81 per cent of new residential home loans during the March 2026 quarter.

“Finance brokers have built an increasingly important and valuable industry, but conventional lenders do not always recognise the recurring income and underlying value of a trail book,” said TrailBlazer Finance managing director Jeff Zulman.

“When market activity slows, many lenders become more conservative. We believe that is precisely when brokers need a specialist funder that understands their businesses, has the balance sheet to support them and is prepared to develop products specifically for their circumstances.”

According to TrailBlazer, eligible applicants can receive a credit response within 24 hours and access funding over a five-year term, subject to credit assessment.

The facility can be used for a range of business purposes, including working capital, hiring staff, investing in technology or marketing, acquiring a trail book, refinancing eligible business liabilities or managing temporary cash flow pressures.

Unlike many specialist business lenders, TrailBlazer said the product does not generally exclude funding where part of the loan is used to refinance existing taxation or business liabilities.

“Trail Xpress allows an eligible broker to access the value already embedded in their trail book without providing property security, commissioning a formal valuation or completing an unnecessarily burdensome application,” Zulman said.

“These are ordinary commercial decisions. They should not require a property mortgage, months of assessment or an expensive valuation process.”

Increased limit follows successful trial

TrailBlazer said the decision to permanently increase the funding limit followed a successful trial of the higher facility.

The lender said the product offers a five-year term and is priced below many short-term specialist and unsecured business finance alternatives.

“Trail Xpress is not intended to be expensive emergency finance,” Zulman said.

“It is a medium-term business funding solution designed by people who understand broker revenue, aggregator arrangements and the enduring value of trail income.

“The increased limit gives established brokers sufficient capacity to make meaningful decisions about their businesses while retaining the speed and simplicity that made the original product successful.”
