Ex-Ubank executive joins Prospa as COO

An ex-Ubank executive has joined SME lender Prospa as its new chief operating officer.

Angelo Azar started in the role on 7 September, bringing more than 20 years of operational leadership experience across financial services, insurance, and digital banking.

The role has been freshly created following a vacancy of almost four years.

Azar joins Prospa from Ubank, where he served as chief operating officer (COO), overseeing customer operations, complaints and resolutions, fraud, payments, cards, supply chain, and procurement.

Prior to Ubank, Azar spent four years as a founding executive and COO at insurtech Honey Insurance, where he helped scale the business and introduce AI, automation, and digital services across its operations and customer experience.

Azar has also held senior roles at Hollard and Commonwealth Bank of Australia, spanning customer operations, sales and service, claims, risk and compliance, partnerships, and operational transformation.

At Prospa, Azar will report to CEO and co-founder Greg Moshal and lead the lender’s customer operations teams across sales operations, collections, customer support, and resolutions.

Moshal said Azar’s experience scaling operations and using technology to improve customer experiences would support Prospa’s next stage of growth.

“Angelo brings deep customer operations experience, a strong track record of leading teams through growth and a practical approach to using technology and AI to make businesses simpler and more effective,” Moshal said.

“This is a new role for Prospa and an important investment in how we grow. Angelo knows how to scale how we operate while keeping our customers and our people at the centre. His leadership will help us move faster and deliver more value for small businesses across Australia and New Zealand.”

Azar said his first priority would be to listen to Prospa’s customers and employees and identify where their experience could be simplified as the lender grows.

“I’ve followed Prospa for many years and have always admired its focus on small business, its pace and the genuine passion its people bring to helping customers succeed,” he said.

“I’m excited to build on those foundations. My first priority is to listen to our people and customers, and find where we can make their experience even simpler as Prospa grows.”
