Specialist lender RedZed has unveiled rugby league legend Billy Slater as its new brand ambassador, extending its longstanding association with the Melbourne Storm.
The ambassadorship will see Slater, who this year embarks on his fifth season as coach of the Queensland Maroons for the State of Origin series, work with RedZed across a range of campaigns and initiatives.
RedZed chief sales and marketing officer Natalie Irvine said Slater’s values and lived experience make him a natural fit for the brand.
“Billy’s success mirrors values held by self-employed Australians: drive, passion, humility, and persistence,” Irvine said.
“So often we focus on the big stories, the big multinational giants, but the economy is built on the work of small business owners who have backed themselves in.
“Through his career, Billy has shown what can be achieved with clarity of purpose and a strong work ethic. That message is incredibly powerful for self-employed Australians, and we’re proud to partner with someone who represents those values so authentically.”
RedZed CEO and managing director Calvin Cordle said the ambassadorship highlights a shared mindset between elite athletes and business owners.
“Self-employed Australians understand what it means to take risks, stay focused and keep showing up, and Billy’s career is a clear reflection of that same commitment,” Cordle said.
“Billy brings more than just sporting success; he brings a perspective on leadership, teamwork and long-term thinking that we believe resonates strongly with the self-employed community.”
Commenting on his new role, Slater said the stories of business owners and self-employed Australians strongly resonate with his own career journey.
“We lean on sports to inspire us, but there are inspirational stories from people that dive into their passion and take the leap and go after what they believe in,” he said.
“I think we can draw inspiration from those stories. That leap of faith, that backing yourself and going after what you believe in and having passion towards it.
“Hopefully we can create some inspiration for people to go out there and chase that dream.”
This latest initiative forms part of RedZed’s longstanding partnership with Melbourne Storm, which was extended to the end of the 2028 season last March.
Since the partnership began in 2020, RedZed has supported the Storm through a range of on- and off-field initiatives, including community programs, professional development events, and fan activations.
The lender has also donated more than $100,000 to Storm-partnered charities.
