Christopher Dean will join the bank’s executive team in September, bringing experience from a range of senior leadership roles at major UK banks such as HSBC UK and Barclays.
His most recent positions have been at HSBC, where he served as managing director and head of retail banking, wealth and mortgage distribution.
Before joining HSBC, Dean spent 14 years at Barclays in leadership positions across the bank’s consumer and business divisions.
In his new role, Dean will oversee Bendigo Bank’s consumer and retail businesses, with responsibility for growing the division while leading customer service and digital transformation initiatives.
Dean is set to commence in September and will be based in Melbourne.
The outgoing chief customer officer for consumer banking Adam Rowse will return to his previous position as chief customer officer for business and agribusiness.
Bendigo Bank CEO Richard Fennell said Dean’s experience leading large branch networks and delivering growth made him well suited to the role.
“Christopher’s expertise will be instrumental in improving our customer-facing processes, sharpening our digital offerings and ensuring we deliver simpler, more intuitive banking to our 2.9 million customers,” Fennell said.
Dean said he was attracted to Bendigo Bank’s history of innovation, pointing to its Community Bank model, the acquisition and development of the digital bank Up, and recent investments in digital lending and onboarding capabilities.
“I’m excited to build on Bendigo Bank’s proud past and I’m looking forward to accelerating the Bank’s digital capabilities so we can serve our retail customers better and build even deeper, more meaningful relationships with them,” he said.
