Laura Downer will enter the role of MFAA state manager – business development for South Australia and the NT from 1 July 2025.
Downer succeeds Wendy Robertson, who has held positions at the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia for over 20 years.
“I love this industry and am here to focus on what matters – you. I want to help you adapt, grow and stay informed as our industry evolves, while continuing to uphold the standards and community spirit we share,” said Downer.
She has held a variety of positions in the broking industry, working previously as a broker, lender BDM, and aggregator BDM, including roles at AMP Bank, ME Bank, and PLAN Australia.
Through this experience, Downer has navigated a dynamic industry, helping brokers stay educated and compliant.
Her experience in training, coaching, and mentoring will translate well into the new position at the MFAA.
“I’m energised by the opportunity to work alongside MFAA members and contribute to the strength of our profession,” Downer said.
Speaking on the appointment, MFAA executive, member experience and partnerships, Melanie Kafka, said she is grateful for the passion brought to the role.
“We are so excited to have Laura joining our State Manager team. She brings not only industry experience and knowledge to our SA/NT members, but also enthusiasm and a genuine passion for working with members and growing the MFAA community,” said Kafka.
“You’ll be seeing Laura at upcoming MFAA events, industry forums, and in direct engagement with members. We warmly welcome her to the MFAA community.”
